On 2 June 2025, the NSW Attorney General, the Hon. Michael Daley, announced that Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM FRSN has been appointed as the NSW Information Commissioner.
Professor Croucher is a distinguished lawyer, educator, and human rights advocate, and in her role as the Information Commissioner, she will lead the Information and Privacy Commission NSW, an independent statutory authority administering NSW legislation dealing with privacy and access to government information.
In announcing the appointment, Mr Daley noted that Professor Croucher brings extensive experience from a distinguished career spanning senior executive roles in both the private and public sectors.
Previously, Professor Croucher served as President of the Australian Human Rights Commission and as President and Commissioner of the Australian Law Reform Commission, where she led several major law reform inquiries. Before taking on these roles, she served as the Dean of two Australian law schools, including over seven years as Dean of Macquarie Law School, of which she is an Emeritus Professor.
Professor Croucher was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015 for significant service to the law as an academic, to legal reform and education, to professional development and to the arts. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW in 2023 and joined the Council earlier this year.
The Council of the Royal Society of NSW extends it warm congratulations to Rosalind Croucher on her appointment as Information Commissioner and wishes her every success in this new role.
