Recent Events on YouTube: October 2025 — updated

In Sydney, on the evening of 1 October, the Society held its 1335th OGM that was followed by a captivating panel discussion on the topic ‘Have universities become too political?‘ between The Hon. Bill Shorten, the former Cabinet Minister and now Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra, and Professor Merlin Crossley AM FRSN, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academy Quality) at UNSW Sydney.

On 21 October, the Society presented the fifth in its Lunchtime Provocations and Inspirations series from the Union, University and Schools Club. On this occasion, Professor Anthony Burke FRAIA, Professor of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney and the presenter of Grad Designs Australia and Restoration Australia on ABC-TV and The Home Front on ABC Radio National, addressed the housing crisis in a thought-provoking presentation titled ‘After the Crisis: a new Australian Dream‘.

The New England North West Branch presented an important community conversation on youth crime on 29 October. This featured a presentation titled ‘Building resilient futures: Understand rural youth through the lens of pace, risk, and prevention‘ by Dr Kyle Mulrooney, Co-Director of the University of New England Centre for Rural Criminology, followed by a panel discussion.

Finally, on 30 October, the Hunter Branch, in collaboration with the Hunter Medical Research Institute, presented the ‘Male Infertility Public Forum‘, a far-reaching and very informative sequence of presentations and panel discussions that sought to advance the conversation about infertility, which affects roughly 1 in 6 couples worldwide.
