The Royal Society of NSW was delighted to learn of the awarding of the Australian Institute of Physics Walter Boas Medal for 2026 to Scientia Professor Andrew Dzurak FRSN FAA of UNSW Sydney and the start-up company Diraq for excellence in pioneering advances in silicon-based quantum computing.
Professor Andrew Dzurak is an innovator and entrepreneur in the global quantum technologies ecosystem, leading teams in both industry and academia. He is CEO and Founder of Diraq, a full-stack quantum computing company employing the silicon CMOS qubits developed by his team at UNSW Sydney over the past two decades. He is also concurrently a Scientia Professor in Quantum Engineering at UNSW Sydney, an ARC Laureate Fellow and a Member of the Executive Board of the Sydney Quantum Academy. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW in 2015 and as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2026.
The AIP Walter Boas Medal was established in 1984 to promote excellence in research in Physics and to commemorate the life and work of Walter Moritz Boas, who was an AIP Honorary Fellow.
The Council of the Society extends its warm congratulations to Professor Dzurak on this most recent recognition of his outstanding research career.
