This event is a joint presentation of the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society — Newcastle and the Hunter Branch of the Royal Society of NSW.
Summary: Martina is passionate about art, physics, and design. In her art practice, she creates holographic images that explore urban experience. Made from montages of photos and videos they create dynamic scenes animated by the viewer’s movement. In this lecture, Martina will discuss how her artworks were inspired by holographic imaging and navigating the urban landscape. Join us to learn from Martina about this interface between art and science.
Dr Martina Mrongovius is an Australian artist and designer with a background in applied physics. She completed her PhD in Melbourne at RMIT University’s Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory where she investigated how holographic images are encountered. Martina has also worked at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Germany, the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, as a Visiting Professor at Kun Shan University in Taiwan, and has curated projects and mentored students at the Center for the Holographic Arts in New York. In a collaborative research project, she created a series of holograms that will be launched on a CubeSat from the International Space Station.
