A joint public lecture presented by the Royal Society of NSW and the University of Sydney Business School.

What is wealth? What is enough?

In this century of carbon and capital constraints, it is important to reconsider these basic questions. Dr Bruce Piasecki does so by arguing that the path to success and the full glory of wealth is doing more with less. Drawing from a lifetime of specializing in corporate governance, leadership coaching, and business strategy, he offers a clear, reliable path for change and its management. During this public lecture based on his new book, “A New Way to Wealth: The Power of Doing More with Less”, Dr Piasecki explores how climate action and corporate responsibilities collide into a new swift and severe world where personal integrity, combined with intelligent, effective teamwork, counts more than ever. He calls for a new era of restraint, public mindfulness, and social purpose in capitalism now that this form of economic governance has become the prevailing model across the globe.

Having had direct consulting experiences in one-third of the Fortune 500, Piasecki offers organisations a chance to heal through innovation, to compete with survival and innovation at the forefront, and to bring competitive frugality back into the life of organisations. During his presentation, he will use exemplar cases from firms as diverse as Merck, Unilever, Toyota, and bp. They all share an urgency on the new bullet train of change.

Dr Bruce Piasecki has served as the president and founder of AHC Group Inc. since 1981, a general management firm specialising in growth, energy, environment, and sustainability. Throughout his four-decade career, he has authored multiple books— including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller, Doing More with Less: A New Way to Wealth. Recently, Dr Piasecki penned New World Companies: The Future of Capitalism, along with Missing Persons, a creative autobiography published by Square One. During Covid, he wrote 2040: A fable on the power of family and friends.

Dr Piasecki earned a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell in 1976; and a Doctor of Philosophy from Cornell in 1981. Dedicated to his environment and community, Dr Piasecki and his wife Andrea Masters sponsor the annual Writer’s Awards through the New York State Writer’s Institute. They contribute through a family-based community trust called the “Creative Force Fund.” Dr Piasecki was honoured for his lifelong achievement by being elected to the Lotos Club in Manhattan by Tom Wolfe, as well as the National Press Club.
