Society Fellow Veena Sahajwalla wins 2022 Eureka Prize

The Royal Society of NSW is delighted that one of its Fellows, Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla FRSN FAA FTSE from UNSW Sydney has been awarded one of the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes for 2022.  The Council of the Society warmly congratulates Professor Sahajwalla on her achievement, and on this recognition of the impact of her outstanding research.

Veena Sahajwalla, who was the 2022 NSW Australian of the Year, has won the 2022 Celestino Eureka Prize for Promoting the Understanding of Science.  Professor Sahajwalla, a materials scientist, is the pioneering inventor of a new generation of ‘green’ materials and sustainable products. Through her rigorous research and extensive community and industry engagement, she is shifting the mindset of the nation to see unwanted materials not as waste, but as a valuable resource.
